Strange weather nation wide brings allergy season early!

Brian Williams from NBC National News recently reported that the strange weather we are experiencing Nation wide has brought spring time allergies much earlier this year.  He states “its as if a bomb went off out there!  The suffering is sky high because the sky is full of pollen.  Spring is most certainly in the air.  The bees are buzzing, everythings blooming, but not everyone’s happy.  The annual pollen attack has begun early.  Trees and spring flowers continue to bloom and grasses are right around the corner”  Check out out our Bee Pollen Facts tab to learn more about how bee pollen may help your seasonal allergies!

Fall has finally arrived in California

Up until just two weeks ago the our bees were enjoying balmy California days in the 80′s.  Fall is upon us now, our days are for the most part in the high 50′s and low 60′s and the floral sources the bees visit daily are changing.  We are now moving our bees from their summer locations to where they will stay until February upon high ground away from the potential of flooding during the rainy winter months of December and January.  During the fall our family feeds our bees by adding back some pure pollen into the hive.  The bees eat it to strengthen the hive and increase the number of newborn baby bees.  It is important for the hives to be strong going into winter in preperation for the new spring pollen gathering season.

Although the 2012 spring allergy season and all the sneezing and runny itchy eyes it brings seems a long time away, it is actually right around the corner.  It is very important to take your bee pollen now, way before you start to feel sympotomatic.  Your body needs time to build a resistance to the heavy pollen floating in the air starting in February and March.  Take your pollen every day now and you’ll be prepared!

With cold and flu season upon us, it is very beneficial to give your immune system a little boost by taking nutrient rich bee pollen.  Check out our nutitianal page for all the specific information.

We thank you for making California Bee Pollen your fresh natural bee pollen source!

It’s now Summer in California

Temperatures are now reaching 90 degrees and above during the day

In the Central Valley and foothill locations where our bees are living, the hives must adapt to the heat just as we have to adapt to the heat. The honey bee colony regulates the temperature in the hive to protect the developing brood, or babies. Whenever the bees are producing young, they maintain a perfect temperature inside the hive.

In warm weather like we are experiencing now, the bees must cool the hive. They do this by first expanding the distance between bees in the nest to allow for air circulation. If there are too many bees in the hive, some merely move outside and cling to the outside of the hive. The bees inside the hive actively cool the nest by bringing in water from outside sources and fanning their wings across a droplet of water. The evaporating water cools the hive-air conditioning.

Many of our customers wonder how the hot temperatures affect the pollen that is being brought in by the bees. Mother Nature knows that the pollen will be stored in the hives in the summer months and has designed the pollen to maintain itself well in the heat. As described above, the bees have developed their own air conditioning system to keep the hive cool naturally. In addition, we at California Bee Pollen collect the pollen with great frequency from the hive and immediately freeze it to maintain its absolute maximum amount of nutritional value. The pollen is packed frozen and immediately shipped directly to you ensuring the finest pollen available.

Although many of you take California Bee Pollen for seasonal allergy relief, remember that you should take the pollen year round even if your symptoms are subsiding so that your body maintains its resistance to airborne allergens. Also check out our nutrition tab. You will see that bee pollen is the most nutrient dense substance even found in nature, a great source of nutrient for your day to day life!

Its warning up in sunny California!

April’s showers have produced an abundance of May flowers in California.  California received a large amount of rain this year and now with the temperatures this last week in the 90’s the wildflowers are putting on quite a show.  The bees are done pollinating the cherry orchards in California and we have moved them to their late spring, early summer locations to take advantage of all the wildflower pollen.

With all the pollen in the air many people are suffering from seasonal allergies.  Check out our allergy tab for more information.

This is a busy time for our family of beekeepers.  We are making new colonies by placing a new queen cell in a new hive with a few frames of bees to care for her after she hatches.  The temperament of the hive is controlled by the queen bee, not unlike many families! Based on our 93 years of beekeeping experience we purchase our queen cells from a company that breads a very calm queen.  A calm queen produces a very calm colony.  A calm colony allows us to work our hives without too much of a  problem.   Breading queen stock is a science similar to breading stock for race horses and cattle.  The queen bee will hatch in approximately 2 days at which time she will leave the hive for the one and only time in her life to be mated.  Upon her return she will begin laying between 800-1200 eggs per day to populate her colony.

April in California

We’ve successfully moved our bee hives from the almond orchards into the cherry fields.

buy pure bee pollenWhich was no easy feat this year. Heavy rains caused flooding and our trucks were slipping and sliding through the muddy fields as we placed the hives throughout the cherry orchards. Following the rains we have experienced higher that normal temperatures in California and the cherry trees are now in full bloom.

The bees are now busy flying from blossom to blossom collecting pollen and pollinating the crop.

During the second half of April we will be leaving the cherry fields and moving the bee hives to the California Delta region and Sierra Nevada foothills for spring flowers. Here the bees will be bringing in pollen from a wonderful variety of wild flowers such as California poppies, mustard flowers and flowering trees.

Spring is a busy season for California Bees

Our beehives have been placed in thousands of acres of almond tree fields in California.

bee pollen from almond treesThe bees have been busy pollinating the almond tree blossoms and collecting pollen.  The photos show the blossoms just beginning to fall to the ground, which is a signal that our bees work is done in the almonds fields.

With warming temperatures and longer days in California, the cherry blossoms are beginning to burst from their buds. We will be moving our beehives from the almond fields to the cherry fields in central California this week.

In order to move the beehives, our beekeepers wait until dusk after all the bees return from the fields of almond trees, mustard and wild flower blossoms to the safety of their hives for the night.

almond tree bee pollenThe hive is a very busy place this time of year.  The bees are busy bringing in nectar and pollen.  Our queen bee is laying up to 500 eggs per day, producing lots of new babies for springtime.  Check back with us for photos of the hives in the beautiful cherry blossoms of California.

With warming temperatures and spring seasonal allergy symptoms increasing, it is important to continue to increase the amounts of California Bee Pollen you are taking slightly every week.  Pollen counts for trees are increasing from the moderate to high levels in many regions. Happy New Year from the California Bee Pollen Family

Preparing our bee hives for the 2011 bee pollen season

pure bee pollen allergiesRight now we are busy tending the hives making sure the bees are strong for our first crop of bee pollen…California almonds.

During the second week of February we will be moving the bees from their winter resting location into 1,000’s of acres of California almond fields to pollinate the crops. Without bees the trees could not produce fruit. The bees fly from flower to flower pollinating the flowers and gathering nectar and pollen.

Healthy happy bees produce the best pollen

allergies bee pollenWe will allow the bees to keep the pollen they collect from the almonds to feed their new offspring. This will allow the hives to increase their populations for the busy year ahead. They will stay in the almond fields for an average of 4 weeks gathering pollen from the almond blossoms and surrounding array of California wild flowers.

California Bee Pollen

Pure Bee Pollen Since 1919

pure bee pollenOur family has been beekeepers producing our pure bee pollen here in Northern California since 1919.

California Bee Pollen is collected daily from our hives in the heart of California’s agriculturally rich Sacramento Delta area. The bee pollen that we sell comes exclusively from our own hives.  We never use pollen from another source.

bee pollen pureBee Pollen direct from the Beekeeper

When you purchase our bee pollen, you are buying directly from the beekeeper.  We maintain complete control over the production of our bee pollen: from where and how the bee pollen is collected, to how it is cleaned and stored. Since we know that happy, healthy bees produce the highest quality pollen, we are completely dedicated to nurturing the health of our bees and their hives.

100% Natural Bee Pollen

Our bee pollen is 100% natural – never artificially processed or preserved. After collecting the bee pollen from our hives, we hand clean our pollen to ensure that you receive the purest bee pollen possible. We then immediately freeze the bee pollen to preserve its nutrients, since heating or drying bee pollen greatly reduces its nutritional value.
